Cookies

  • What we measure: we use Google Analytics to see which pages are read, how far, and which features are used (for example search, compare or the newsletter form), so we can improve DinoDex. It sets first-party cookies with a random id. We never send your email address or other personal details with it.
  • No ads personalisation: Google signals and ad personalisation are off, and advertising storage is denied by default.
  • Opting out: turn on Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control in your browser and DinoDex loads no measurement at all. Blocking cookies in your browser works too.
  • On your device only: a few preferences (such as theme, favourites, that you have seen the cookie notice) are kept in your browser's local storage and never leave it.
  • External fonts: on Chinese, Japanese and Hindi pages the fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address and browser details in order to serve them; it sets no cookies. English, Portuguese and Spanish pages load no external fonts.
  • Language and location: the first-party dd_locale cookie remembers the language you chose, for 1 year. dd_suggest holds a suggested language based on your browser language and country. dd_geo holds your country and, at most, your region, derived from your IP address by our host at the edge. It lasts 24 hours and is used for the language suggestion and aggregate analytics. No city, no precise location, and we do not store your IP.

Newsletter

  • What we store: your email address, its status (pending, active or unsubscribed), where you signed up, the consent text you saw and when, and a one-way hash of your IP address used only to stop abuse. We never store the raw IP.
  • Double opt-in: nothing is sent until you click the link in the confirmation email.
  • What we send: news about new dinosaurs and features. No ads, and your address is never sold or shared for marketing.
  • Unsubscribe: every email has a one-click unsubscribe link. It works immediately, without logging in.
  • Who handles it: the site runs on our own database; emails are delivered through an email service provider acting on our behalf.
  • Your rights: you can ask to see, correct or delete your data at any time by replying to any of our emails.
